Orpington Priory housed the Bromley Museum until its doors were closed on 25 September 2015.  The council now intends to place the building and surrounding land on the open market.

We are a community group and registered charity set up to try to preserve The Priory and continue its use as a community asset. Our vision is ‘… to ensure the future of Orpington Priory, and its conservation and restoration as an historic building, with increased public access.’ We want to persuade the council to let us run The Priory as an Arts & Heritage Centre, Community, Education and Business Hub which will be enjoyed by both the local and the wider community. We hope to provide Orpington with a much needed cultural centre with improved facilities, tea rooms, exhibitions and events.

The tea rooms will offer food and drink, catering for special events with outdoor seating during the summer months

We are working with architectural conservators and advisors
to provide accessibility to all areas of the Priory

The Priory presents a very exciting opportunity to host a variety of events for a range of audiences.

A selection of proposed events include weddings, medieval banquets, craft fairs, theatre and comedy nights. In addition, permanent exhibitions looking at the history of The Priory and local history will run in parallel with a temporary exhibitions programme promoting local creativity and output from further afield.

The Priory will offer membership when up and running with a range of benefits.

. . . . until then we would love to hear from you if you would like to be involved in the campaign. Please get in touch through the contact page.

We hope to run a busy education programme in line with the current syllabus, catering for all school ages.

The Priory has a long standing history of school group education and this is a legacy we would very much like to continue.
